Silicon Valley Gay Men’s Chorus currently maintains a membership of 50 singers and we pride ourselves in welcoming gay and transgender men from all over the Bay Area. Ethnic minorities comprise over one-third of our membership, and our Assistant Director and Board President are Black Americans.

It was , and the AIDS epidemic was still in its relatively early stages: hundreds of lives had been claimed in the US, those of gay men disproportionately so. Queer communities in cities around the world were filled with anxiety and fear around the virus and the lack of political action to take it on as their friends, families, and loved ones were suffering. With such pain and loss becoming an everyday reality, members of these communities began searching for outlets to offer hope.

Silicon Valley Gay Men’s Chorus is the proud recipient of a Human Relations Award from Santa Clara County and a Commendation from the City of San Jose. SVGMC has also been recognized for outreach to gay-straight alliances and the LGBTQ Youth Space in San Jose.
